Middleton Environmental Law LLC was founded in 2017 by Joe Middleton. For over fifteen years, Joe has counseled a wide range of clients including local governments, natural resource and real estate development companies, corporations, private equity groups and individuals on the complexities of federal and state environmental laws. Joe’s goal is to provide his clients with the best strategies for avoiding environmental liabilities and pursuing opportunities while protecting the environment.
Joe is also involved in the local environmental community and has provided extensive counsel to both national and local non-profit organizations engaged in habitat and watershed restoration and protection. He serves on the board of the Boulder Watershed Collective, a Boulder-based non-profit group whose mission is to protect and restore the health and function of the Boulder Creek Watershed, and support watershed-related collaboration statewide.
Joe regularly speaks on issues of environmental law and has presented at events hosted by the Environmental Law Institute, Colorado and Denver Bar Associations, the Colorado Women’s Bar Association and the Colorado Hazardous Waste Management Society.
Joe received his undergraduate education from Tulane University and the University of Colorado at Boulder. He earned his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law in 2004, where he received the Florence Scrivner Memorial Scholarship and the Scholastic Excellence Award in Natural Resource Law. While at DU he served as a technical editor for the Denver Journal of International Law and Policy.
Joe was named a Colorado Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2014, 2013 and 2012.
